Love Triangle Turns Deadly in Kakamega

On July 18, 2019, a tragic love triangle turned deadly in Kakamega when 22-year-old Newton Omenda was attacked by four men, allegedly over a dispute involving his girlfriend and Mohammed Were.

According to court documents, Omenda was in the company of his girlfriend when he was assaulted by the four men, armed with swords, machetes, and clubs, leaving him with serious injuries.

Omenda managed to escape with minor injuries, but he later succumbed to his injuries at St Mary's Mumias Hospital before being transferred to Kakamega County General Hospital for specialized treatment.

Three of the attackers, Mohammed Were, Eshmael Oduor, and Joseph Odhiambo, were arrested on July 20, 2019, and murder weapons were recovered. They have been detained for 10 days to facilitate further investigations.

Police Constable Felix Orioki, who is investigating the matter, has requested 14 days to conclude the probe, citing the need for the suspects to undergo mental examination to determine their fitness to stand trial.

The matter is set to be mentioned in court on August 1, 2019, for further directions.
