American photographer and blogger Brandon Stanton created the online community Humans of New York (HONY) in the summer of 2010.
HONY started when Stanton decided to photograph 10,000 New Yorkers and plot their photos on a map. The project allows people to tell their stories in their own words, alongside Stanton's photographs.
