On July 21, 2019, Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) was crowned the Cecafa Kagame Cup champion after defeating Tanzania's Azam 1-0 in the final match at the Stade Kigali in Rwanda.
The Ugandan team's victory marked its second Cecafa title, having won the championship in 2016. KCCA's success was a testament to the team's hard work and dedication, as coach Mike Mutebi noted, "It was a befitting success after a long spell of hard work behind the scenes."
Kenyan clubs, Bandari and Gor Mahia, also participated in the tournament but failed to impress. Bandari drew in all its three group stage matches, while Gor Mahia beat several teams but lost to Zambia's Green Eagles in the semifinals.
The Cecafa Kagame Cup tournament offered several lessons for Kenyan stakeholders, including the need for better infrastructure and support for football teams. Rwanda, the host country, provided funds, accommodation, and logistical support, showcasing its commitment to sports development.
President Paul Kagame's administration is also constructing an ultra-modern indoor gymnasium in Kigali, which will host international indoor volleyball and basketball matches when completed.
