Published on July 22, 2019, Kenya's basketball team, the Morans, will face Ivory Coast in a crucial round of 16 match in the ongoing FIBA AfroCan competition in Bamako, Mali.
Kenya Morans secured the second position in Group B with three points, just a point shy of dominant DR Congo, who earned maximum points after defeating Kenya and winless Nigeria to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
Despite losing to DR Congo 82-65 in their group match, the Morans' Tyler Ongwae impressed with 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Should Kenya prevail against Ivory Coast, they will face Tunisia in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Against Nigeria, the Morans found their spark, winning 81-69, with Ongwae scoring a game-high 31 points, and Erick Reuben Mutoro and Okall Koranga contributing 12 points each.
Ivory Coast, on the other hand, lost all their group ties, suffering defeats against Algeria and Mali.
The top teams in Group B, Mali, Angola, and DR Congo, have secured direct qualification to the quarter-finals and will meet the winners of the round of 16 matches.
