Google has purchased US-based Titan Aerospace, a manufacturer of high-altitude drones, for an undisclosed amount.
According to Google, the acquisition aims to support the company's efforts to expand global internet access.
Titan Aerospace is developing two types of solar-powered drones capable of flying for extended periods, with expected initial commercial operations by 2015. The company, which employs approximately 20 people, will remain based in Moriarty, New Mexico.

This move follows Facebook's earlier acquisition of UK-based drone maker Ascenta for $20 million. Both companies are competing to utilize innovative technologies, such as drones and high-altitude balloons, to deliver internet access to a broader population.
