The National Intelligence Service (NIS) has expressed concerns over countrywide rallies planned by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), led by Raila Odinga, citing potential mobilization of protests against the Jubilee government.
Raila Odinga has revised his strategy, stating that Kenyans cannot wait until 2017 for their grievances to be addressed. He has called for a national dialogue with the Jubilee government, which has been met with resistance.
According to reports, NIS is closely monitoring Raila Odinga's moves, suspecting that he may be exploiting weaknesses within the Jubilee government to his advantage. They believe he might be secretly planning to mobilize millions of disgruntled citizens.
NIS is allegedly working to counter Raila Odinga's plans, including using certain governors and individuals to ban CORD rallies in their regions, in an effort to limit the movement's growth.
A member of Raila Odinga's security team, speaking to Nairobi Exposed, revealed that they are aware of NIS's surveillance activities, saying,
"we know and we've established that NIS are spying on Jakom 24/7, all his call logs, movements carefully monitored. They are trying all means to fetch out any incriminating evidence against him, but we are taking all precautions... Raila is not doing anything illegal that they'll ever find, the man is smarter and so is his intelligence team."
