Former journalist Moses Dola, who was charged with the murder of his wife, has spoken publicly about his experiences after prison and the challenges he faced finding employment.
Dola has launched an entertainment company, D-Entertainment, which aims to provide job opportunities for ex-convicts. The company offers sound and entertainment services for corporate and social events, with a team of 12 comedians, dancers, and MCs, all of whom are ex-convicts.
Dola conceived the idea for the entertainment company nine years prior to starting college. In an interview with The Star, he discussed the inspiration behind the venture and the difficulties he faced after his incarceration.
Dola was imprisoned after being named as the primary suspect in the murder of his wife, Wambui Kabiru, a former NTV journalist. His case remains unresolved.
Reflecting on his time in prison, Dola stated:
"It is not easy. First of all, being a journalist, I was always in and out of places, so once you are in prison, you find yourself confined, you don’t have extra room to move around. And there is no communication with the outside world, you are in a mental torture zone."
He further added:
"Prison life is not what you can expect. You leave and you have a tag. Throughout my time in prison, I got to nurture their talent, and when they did their time and got out, we teamed up. There are no jobs, and we have to stay clear of a life of crime."
