On Sunday, July 21, 2019, Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) was crowned the Cecafa Kagame Cup champion after defeating Tanzania's Azam 1-0 in the final match at the Stade Kigali.
The Ugandan champions dominated the tournament, winning all their seven matches except one, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Kenya's Bandari at the Huye Stadium.
KCCA's coach, Mike Mutebi, attributed their success to hard work and expressed confidence that the team would transfer this momentum to their upcoming engagements, including the Caf Champions League.
Kenyan clubs Bandari and Gor Mahia also participated in the tournament but failed to impress. Bandari drew in all its three group matches, while Gor Mahia beat several teams but lost to Zambia's Green Eagles in the semis.
The Cecafa Kagame Cup offered a platform for 400 footballers from eight African countries to showcase their talents and compete for Sh6 million in prize money. Rwanda, the host country, provided excellent infrastructure, funding, and logistical support, making the tournament a success.
