Kevin Wambua, the head coach of Mwamba RFC, is focused on winning the Kabeberi Sevens title this weekend in Meru County. The team finished third in the opener of the National Sevens Circuit held in Kakamega over the weekend.
Wambua, who is also the assistant coach of the Shujaa's, expects tough competition in Meru. He believes that finishing third in the opener gives them the morale to rectify mistakes made in the previous tournament.
“Last year we hosted Kabeberi Sevens in Machakos and lost in the quarter finals so finishing third in the opener of the Circuit gives us the morale to go back to the drawing board and rectify mistakes that we made,” he observed. “We want to reach in the finals in all the remaining five legs.”
The National Sevens Circuit will be heading to Meru County for the first time, with the aim of developing the sport and creating a good fan base.
Wambua applauded the new talents in the tourney, saying that the involvement of the youth players shows how rugby is developing. Mwamba finished runners-up in the circuit last year, behind defending champions, Menengai Cream Homeboyz.
