A scuffle occurred between Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Cleophas Malala, an MCA aspiring to be the county senator, at a burial ceremony in Matungulu on Saturday.

According to reports, Malala took to the stage and questioned why Kakamega Finance executive Paul Otsola remained in office despite being mentioned in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s list of shame. The county assembly had previously asked Otsola to step aside due to the Sh200 million irregularly given to Mumias Sugar Company by the county government.

The situation escalated when Oparanya, seated next to CORD leader Raila Odinga, approached the podium and attempted to grab the microphone from Malala. Supporters of Oparanya intervened, forcing Malala to leave the scene. It reportedly took nearly 30 minutes to calm the crowd.

A clip of the incident is available online.

The recovered account cited reporting by The Star.
