According to Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and police spokesman Charles Owino, police acted in self-defense during anti-IEBC protests in Siaya county, where two people were shot dead.

Kibicho stated that protesters attacked police with stones and attempted to storm a police station, prompting the police response. He also warned the opposition against calling for violent demonstrations, saying they would not be tolerated.

Kibicho made these comments while receiving 11 police officers injured during the CORD protests in Siaya and Kisumu counties at Wilson Airport. He noted that officers found to have used excessive force would be punished.

The recovered account cited reporting by Mediamax.
