Mathare United captain Vincent Okello has welcomed a three-year sponsorship deal with Britam, an insurance company, worth Sh75 million.

The deal will cover players' salaries and allowances, club logistics, and provide the team with new Britam-branded jerseys over the next three years.

According to Okello, the sponsorship will positively impact the team's performance. 'I am very excited as a player of Mathare, it is a day we have been waiting for and it is finally here. We have been having financial problems in the team but with this sponsorship, everything is sorted for now, it is a wonderful thing to us,' he said.

Okello expressed confidence in coach Stanley Okumbi, describing him as one of the best tacticians he has worked with during his 25 years with the 'Slum Boys'. 'Okumbi has all the qualities of a good coach, with him this team will go places. I personally thank him for the faith he had in me and for handing me the captaincy role. It is one of the things which show how much the coach trusts you.'

The captain believes the sponsorship will motivate the players to work harder and achieve good results. 'Our morale is high, and we do hope the motivation we currently have will lead us to work harder and have a good season. It is up to us players to concentrate now and return the favors by improving our game and registering good results.'
