July 22, 2019 - Mutota Mutwiri, a former Royal Media Services sports editor, has made a significant career move, joining CCTV Africa after two years at Sportpesa.

According to his social media announcement, Mutwiri's decision to join the Chinese broadcaster was driven by a passion for journalism and a desire to revive his career after a stint in the corporate industry.

He is now a Line Producer at Sports for CCTV Africa, which has its Africa headquarters in Nairobi.

"They say once a news hound always a news hound. The allure of the newsroom proved too strong to resist," Mutwiri posted on social media. "After two wonderful years at Sportpesa, it's time to resume my news career journey at CGTN Africa," he added.

Mutwiri was part of a group of journalists poached by Sportpesa in May 2017, as the company sought to strengthen its content team to match its massive growth and expansion strategy.

His departure from Sportpesa comes at a time when the betting giant is facing challenges, including a government crackdown on tax evasion allegations.

Mutwiri is a seasoned journalist with a strong background, having won the Sport Award at the 2008 CNN Africa Journalist Awards. He is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi Journalism School and holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Kenya Institute of Media and Communication.
