Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is mourning the death of Mourine Tata, a peace advocate and his chief campaigner in Nairobi, who died on July 8 due to post-delivery complications at Nairobi Hospital.
Tata, who had expressed interest in running for the Makadara seat on an ODM ticket in 2017, will be buried in Brigadier, Tongaren Sub-County, Bungoma.
Raila Odinga described Tata's death as a terrible blow to the ODM fraternity, praising her as a vibrant lady who worked tirelessly for democracy in the country. He noted that she never segregated anybody and had been dedicated to collecting Okoa Kenya signatures across the country.
Odinga also remembered Tata as a non-tribal individual, a key human rights defender, and a fierce ODM campaigner. Her death follows the losses of other key ODM figures, including Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang and Odinga's eldest son, Fidel Odinga, who both died under mysterious circumstances.
