A wave of defections has hit the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), with several senior members, including a deputy governor, joining the Jubilee Party.
The defections, which occurred on Saturday, February 25, have directly benefited Jubilee's gubernatorial aspirant in Kilifi, Gideon Mung'aro. Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto, who defected from ODM, will be Mung'aro's running mate in the August 8 elections.
Kamto cited frustration under Governor Amason Kingi's administration as the reason for his defection.
I suffered under governor Kingi and I have now decided to move out of ODM. Most people ask why I did not leave long time ago if I was being frustrated. I had to stay so that I could get enough evidence about the rot going on in Kilifi County,
he said while being received into Jubilee by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya.
Kamto expressed his readiness to face officers in Kingi's administration in an open forum, stating that he had sufficient information concerning the improper running of the Kilifi government.
