Police in Tanzania have arrested a man accused of hiding his girlfriend in a cemented pit for over eight months.

According to initial reports, the man allegedly intended to use the woman in a ritual to gain wealth.

The woman, who is in her twenties, was rescued by Tanzanian authorities after they received a tip from the man's neighbors.

During her rescue, the woman told authorities that she survived on just two meals a week while being held captive.

A video capturing the moment of her rescue circulated on Facebook, though its graphic nature has limited its publication.
