On a routine patrol at Kano airport in northern Nigeria, Bashir Umar, a member of the Mobile Air Defence Team, stumbled upon a lost parcel containing 37,000 euros ($41,500; £33,300) in cash.

Instead of keeping the money, Mr. Umar found a telephone number on the parcel and contacted the owner, returning the parcel and its contents.

The air force has commended Mr. Umar's actions, stating that he will be rewarded to encourage other personnel to follow his example.

This is not the first time honest staff have returned forgotten valuables at Nigeria's airports, with similar instances reported in Lagos last August and September.
