According to Nairobi County Police Commander Benson Kibui, police fatally shot five suspects in separate incidents across the city on Monday night.
Commander Kibui stated that police encountered a gang of six robbers armed with firearms at Tena estate. The police had been informed that six gunmen, equipped with an AK47 rifle and pistols, were robbing individuals near a stage along Manyanja road.
When officers responded to the scene, they exchanged fire with the suspects and killed four. Two accomplices escaped the scene.
As Commander Kibui explained, "There was an exchange of fire and police managed to gun down four of the suspects."
In a separate incident, one suspect was killed and a homemade gun was recovered. According to Commander Kibui, this suspect was part of a gang of five that had been robbing people at Muthama shopping center in Riruta.
The police operation to recover illegal firearms is ongoing, following an ultimatum issued by the President on April 4.
