Richard Chacha, a former employee of NTV, was terminated by the station's General Manager, Linus Kaikai, reportedly due to his physical condition and perceived unproductivity following a 2012 accident.
According to sources within the media group, Chacha, who was involved in an accident while driving Linus Kaikai's vehicle, was left paralyzed from the waist down and has been using a motorized wheelchair since then.
The accident occurred in 2012 while Chacha, along with other NMG journalists, including Ephantus Mwangi, Frida Kirema, Emmanuel Talam, and Linus Kaikai, were traveling from Narok after a fundraiser. Chacha had to undergo further treatment in India.
Linus Kaikai cited the need to cut costs and improve productivity as reasons for terminating Chacha's contract, as well as that of Debarl Ainea. This decision has raised questions about the station's treatment of employees who have suffered injuries while on official assignments.
Other technical staff at NTV may also face termination as the company focuses on cost-cutting measures.
