On July 22, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto addressed allegations of his assassination, speaking to the K24 Punchline show.
When asked about the claims, Ruto avoided giving a clear answer, stating that the matter was private between him and President Uhuru.
"The matter that you have asked is something I have discussed with my boss and it is not for public discussion," he said.
Despite being the second in command and having millions of followers, Ruto kept Kenyans in the dark on his position on the matter, steering away from giving a clear answer on when he discussed the matter with the President.
He also did not confirm whether additional security had been added to his entourage, referring the question to his head of security.
Regarding the ongoing investigations into the assassination claims, Ruto expressed his support for the rule of law, stating, "We are in a country that is based on the rule of law. I guess every citizen must be held to account legally and constitutionally for whatever they say and whatever actions they carry out,"
