On July 20, 2019, a dramatic incident unfolded at the Isebania border point, where Customs and Border Control officials detained three individuals suspected of child trafficking.
Two Kenyans and a Tanzanian national were apprehended, and a one-month-old baby boy was rescued from their custody.
According to initial investigations, the suspects were allegedly involved in an elaborate syndicate that involved taking Kenyan babies to Tanzania, issuing them with birth certificates, and then returning them.
Just a few days prior, on April 2019, a Tanzanian national, Musa Mbalu, was arrested in Maua town for child trafficking. Mbalu, 30, was believed to be behind a ring that trafficked children with special needs and used them to beg at various strategic points.
During the raid, three children aged 12 years were rescued.
