A shootout between police and suspected gangsters at a Nairobi estate resulted in the deaths of three people on Monday.
According to police, one suspect was shot while hiding in a toilet during the 10am incident at Mwiki. About Sh100,000, stashed in a polythene bag, was also recovered from the toilet.
Police stated that the money was part of Sh2 million taken during a robbery at Sheraton Petrol Station, near Ruiru on the Eastern Bypass, approximately three hours prior.
The gang also robbed the premises owner, Mr Patel, of a mobile phone before fleeing on two motorbikes.
Officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit intercepted the gang at Mwiki with the help of residents, managing to flush out the suspects from their hiding places.
An investigation into the incident is likely underway, but details of the probe have not been disclosed.
