On July 22, 2019, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale spoke out against the banning of hijabs in schools, calling it a violation of constitutional rights.

Speaking in Garissa town, Duale emphasized that as leaders from the region, they would not allow such discrimination to occur.

He pointed out that all religious faiths and their beliefs, including what they wear, have been recognized by the constitution.

His comments come after a Supreme Court ruling in January 2019 overturned a Court of Appeal decision that allowed Muslim students to wear hijabs in public and church-run schools.

However, Muslim leaders have urged their followers to ignore the ruling, citing the constitution's provision for freedom of worship.

Meanwhile, the Teachers Service Commission has warned schools against employing unregistered teachers, emphasizing the importance of quality in education.
