Published on July 22, 2019, a plot to replace besieged Treasury CS Henry Rotich with John Njiraini, the immediate former Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner-General, has emerged.
The move has caused jitters between President Uhuru Kenyatta's camp and that of his Deputy William Ruto, who are lobbying for the post to be retained by a Kalenjin.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's camp has also put Kenya's ambassador to the US, Robinson Githae, on standby in a bid to wrestle the powerful docket.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, ordered the arrest of Rotich and other top government officials over the multibillion shillings Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
The officials include Dr Susan Koech, PS East Africa Community, David Kipchumba Kimosop, MD Kerio Valley Development Authority, Kennedy Nyakundi, National Treasury, Titus Mureithi, and Jackson Njau Kinyanjui.
Others are Inspector General of State Corporations, Titus Muriithi, KVDA head of supply chain, William Kipkemboi, Paul Serem, manager, engineering services, Francis Chepkonga, Samuel Kimutai, David Juma, Patrick Kiptoo, Elizabeth Kebenei, and Esther Kiror of the tendering committee.
Members of the technical and financial committee, Moses Kipchumba, Nelson Korir, Isaac Kiiru, Patrick Kipsang, Frederick Towett, Jotham Rutto, Charity Muui, Geoffrey Wahungu, and David Ongare, are also to be arrested.
