The horticulture industry is concerned about potential high import duties on flower exports to the European Union starting October 1, unless Kenya signs the Economic Partnership Agreements.
Players in the industry fear that over 120,000 tonnes of fresh cut flowers exported to the EU from Kenya each year could be taxed between 8 and 12 percent if the EPAs are not signed and ratified within three months.
Jane Ngige, CEO of the Kenya Flower Council (KFC), spoke about these concerns during a meeting between the KFC and the European Floriculture Forum at a hotel in Nakuru.
