Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology was closed indefinitely due to unrest among students who were barred from taking examinations because they had not cleared their fees.
Examinations scheduled to start earlier were postponed until April 14 to give students time to settle their outstanding fee balances.
A meeting held on Friday resulted in a decision that only students who had paid their fees would be allowed to sit for the end-of-semester exams, which reportedly sparked the unrest leading to the university's closure.
The university Senate ordered all students to vacate the campus by 11am, stating, "This is to inform all students that due to the ongoing unrest of disrupting examinations from taking place, the University Senate has decided to close the university with immediate effect."
