A court case stemming from an incident in 2009 has concluded with a significant financial penalty for Deejay Lady Saw.
In Jamaica, a similar issue of employer-house help relations made headlines, albeit with a different set of circumstances than those often reported in Kenya.
The situation began when one of Lady Saw's house helps, 64-year-old Dorothy Wilson, was mauled by approximately 10 dogs at Lady Saw's upper St. Andrew home. The attack resulted in Wilson being hospitalized for a month at the University Hospital of West Indies, where she received treatment for over 20 dog bites.
Years after the incident, Justice Leighton Pusey awarded Wilson $1.5 million with interest in an assessment of damages hearing in the Supreme Court. However, Lady Saw has refused to pay the damages.
