A vacancy has arisen for a Chief Fire Services Officer at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The successful candidate will be responsible for all matters related to fire disaster, risk reduction, fire prevention, fire fighting, search and rescue, inspection, and enforcement of statutory requirements.
The Chief Fire Services Officer will oversee the provision of fire and rescue cover, ensure that fire and rescue facilities and equipment are serviceable, and provide leadership to the Fire and Rescue team. The officer will also develop, review, and implement firefighting policies and procedures in accordance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities ¶
- Provide leadership to the Fire and Rescue team through overall planning and management of the entire station fire and rescue function
- Develop, review, and implement all firefighting policies and procedures in accordance with the industry regulations
- Inspect fire fighting equipment to ensure appropriate equipment is available as required
- Take command in the event of a fire to ensure safe, effective, and controlled response
- Inspect airside equipment to ensure they meet apron regulations on safety
- Liaise with Fire Training Instructors on annual training programs and train airport operators on fire rescue and awareness
Requirements ¶
The ideal candidate must have proficient knowledge in firefighting techniques and methods, command and control techniques, fire investigation and evidence gathering techniques, and emergency response techniques. They must also demonstrate leadership skills, analytical and problem-solving ability, negotiation and decision-making skills, and the ability to deal effectively with people in difficult situations.
Qualifications and Experience ¶
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Professional Qualification
- Relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a large-size organization and thorough knowledge of Fire safety and rescue operations
- Computer literacy
