A recent development in the cases of Deputy President William Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC) involves the admission of the Waki Report by Trial Chamber V(a).
The Waki Report, formally known as the Commission of Inquiry into Post-Election Violence Report, was instrumental in prompting further investigation. It contained the infamous 'Waki envelope,' later referred to as the 'Ocampo envelope,' from which the names of six individuals were forwarded to the ICC for potential prosecution.
The report was compiled by the Commission of Inquiry into Post-Election Violence (CIPEV) following an investigation into the 2007-2008 post-election violence in Kenya.
