According to data released by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Kenyans abroad sent home KSh 30.44 billion in June 2019, a significant increase from the previous month.

This represents a 21.4% increase from the KSh 25.07 billion recorded in May 2019.

Over the past 12 months, the cumulative cash inflow from the diaspora stood at KSh 285.63 billion, a 13.6% increase from the KSh 251.55 billion recorded in June 2018.

Breaking down the remittances by region, the CBK noted that North America, Europe, and the rest of the world accounted for 38%, 32%, and 30% respectively, of the remittances in June 2019.

"North America, Europe and the rest of the world accounted for 38%, 32% and 30% respectively, of the remittances in June 2019," the regulator said.

As the country continues to receive significant remittances from abroad, the CBK has encouraged Kenyans to take advantage of the opportunities available in the diaspora.
