Men in the community are reportedly advocating for girls to undergo FGM, citing concerns that they may not be eligible for marriage or social responsibilities if they do not undergo the procedure. The community believes that abandoning FGM could lead to a curse.
The persistence of FGM in Elgeyo-Marakwet is attributed to superstition and traditional beliefs. Efforts to eradicate the practice have yet to yield significant results in this region.
