Chelsea striker Diego Costa claims he came close to joining Liverpool before moving to England from Atletico Madrid.
Costa left Atletico Madrid after helping them win the La Liga title and joined Chelsea, where he has scored 17 goals in 19 league appearances.
According to the Daily Mirror, Costa said:
I was close to leaving Atletico. Liverpool are a great team, but after fighting so hard and overcoming difficulties to get my place at Atletico, how could I leave? I thought it was very important to keep growing with Atletico and to play there for many years.
Despite reported interest from Liverpool, Costa initially chose to stay at Atletico Madrid, signing a contract extension before eventually joining Chelsea after the World Cup.
