Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has denied rumors that he is interested in running for a political seat in the upcoming August 2017 elections.
Wamalwa had been rumored to be eyeing either the Nairobi gubernatorial seat or the Trans Nzoia governor seat. However, in an interview with KTN on Friday, February 10, he stated that his focus is on serving Kenyans, particularly those struggling with hunger.
Actually, I have never at any time declared my candidature because even the law would never allow that as long as I’m in office. When the time comes, I will be able to make a decision as to where I will run whether in Nairobi or Trans Nzoia or to remain in public service, but what I can say for now is that my heart is not on the ongoing politics but on Kenyans who are starving.
Wamalwa's announcement comes after he was endorsed by several Jubilee politicians, including MPs Ferdinand Waititu and Kanini Kega, for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in July 2016.
He also declined to comment on reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta had met with three cabinet secretaries, rumored to be eyeing political seats, and asked them to publicly declare their intentions.
Another cabinet secretary, Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, had considered running for the Laikipia governor seat but decided against it after being persuaded by Uhuru to remain in his cabinet.
