President Uhuru Kenyatta encouraged African countries to adopt low-cost green energy to achieve their development goals during a panel discussion at the 51st annual African Development Bank meeting in Lusaka, Zambia.
Kenya has made significant strides in scaling up investments in green energy, earning a spot among the top 10 countries in the world in the green energy sector, according to a Bloomberg New Energy Finance report. The government has increased power generation from 1,700 to 2,300 megawatts within two and a half years, resulting in a surplus of reserve energy for the first time in history.
With the increased energy supply, President Kenyatta stated that his administration has connected nearly every school to the grid. The meeting focused on three key pillars: energy, climate change, and youth employment.
