According to custom, when a holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday. With Labour Day falling on a Sunday, Monday was declared a public holiday.
Kenyans could use the long weekend to reflect on the floods' damaging effects and the characteristic traffic congestion that accompanies rain, while also enjoying the extra time off.
