According to the report by The Star, Mutahi Ngunyi's firm received a total of Sh38.9 million for consultancy services related to the implementation of the National Youth Service (NYS) 5-point Vision strategy. The breakdown of the payments includes Sh25 million as quarterly payments and an additional Sh13.9 million for reimbursement costs.

In response to the article, Mutahi Ngunyi tweeted a statement threatening to sue The Star for allegedly under-representing the value of his company. He claimed that the consultancy fee of Sh38 million was reasonable considering his company operates as a security think-tank in 18 countries.
