Jared Otieno, who married his wife Kendi Mwiti in a lavish KSh15 million wedding in 2015, is being hunted by police over allegations of fraud.
Otieno's wedding, which took place at the Windsor Golf Club, was attended by high-profile guests including Amason Kingi, Jack Ranguma, and Mutea Iringo.
However, according to an expose by the Daily Nation, Otieno is accused of being a con artist who has defrauded foreigners out of hundreds of millions of shillings in fake gold deals.
Otieno allegedly used pseudo names such as Smith Mackenzie and Smith Mackenzie Otieno to dupe foreigners into buying gold from him, and charged them for non-existent service transactions.
Evidence of Fraud ¶
The Daily Nation reported that Otieno shipped pieces of gold-colored scrap metal to victims who prepaid for the precious metal.
One victim, Christian Gallati, an Austrian national, lost KSh 13.7 million to Otieno, while a Venezuelan national lost KSh 170 million after being promised KSh 1.7 billion from the sale of a prime plot in Kenya.
Investigation and Response ¶
National Police spokesman George Kinoti said that all allegations reported are investigated, and if any criminal ingredients are established, the matter will be presented in court in collaboration with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Consequences ¶
Otieno has been hiding in plain sight, and sources in the security sector claim that he has been receiving police protection, which has frustrated investigations into the allegations.
