A vacancy has been re-advertised for the position of Head of Orange Money, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer within the Range R2U of the Orange Money department.

The role involves overseeing the launch of the Orange Money mobile money transfer product in Kenya, including negotiations with a partner bank, obtaining regulatory approvals, setting up the technical aspects, determining pricing, and managing marketing and distribution strategies.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of the Orange Money product, adapting it to the Kenyan market where a competitor product currently holds a monopoly. This includes liaising with the FT Group to adopt a unique strategy for Kenya that could potentially be applied to similar markets.

  • Identifying and negotiating with a partner bank for a mutually beneficial financial agreement.
  • Obtaining regulatory approval by preparing necessary contracts and submissions.
  • Setting up the technical infrastructure, including developing software specifications and negotiating prices with vendors.
  • Developing marketing strategies, selecting a marketing agency, and educating them on brand guidelines.
  • Creating a distribution plan, recruiting agents, and negotiating distribution channel sharing with the partner bank and other operators.

Requirements

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree, with a financial background being an added advantage. A minimum of 10 years of work experience, particularly in startup operations, is required, with additional experience in telecommunications or banking being beneficial.

  • Key competencies include an entrepreneurial spirit, excellent commercial and negotiation skills, the ability to work independently, good communication and presentation skills, and the capacity to motivate teams.
