On July 22, 2019, English Premier League side Arsenal FC announced plans to support Kenyan sports talent, aiming to help young athletes realize their dreams in sports.

The club aims to develop a youth facility in Kenya that will focus on football and implement meaningful societal change. According to a statement, Arsenal FC has always sought to develop talent in Africa, recognizing the continent's wealth of untapped potential.

"We are here in Kenya to identify local brands that align with the values of the club, to work with grassroots football initiatives in the region and help nurture and develop young talent," the statement read.

Arsenal FC has a unique affinity with Africa, dating back to the technical and football policy of Arsene Wenger over 20 years ago. Wenger recognized Africa as a continent rich in talent, and the club has since given prominence to African and French African players.

The club plans to widen its academy, specifically the youth training facility, with Per Mertesacker, head of the Arsenal Academy, aiming to create the best football development centre in the world, as well as the most caring and nurturing facility.

"Our focus, however, is not just on football development. We are looking to enforce this philosophy through developing well-rounded young men and women who have the skills to prepare them for life, whether that is within football or not," the statement read.

As a start, the club will focus on Kenya, building on its existing partnership with Kenyan sports betting firm Sportpesa. This partnership has helped Kenyan footballers benefit from twice-a-year training camps held by Arsenal FC in the country since August 2018.
