On Sunday, February 5, the al-Shabaab militant group executed four Kenyan men near Kismayu, Somalia, for allegedly being spies.
The executions were carried out publicly, according to Mohamed Abu Abdalla, an al-Shabaab governor who spoke to Reuters. The method of execution was not disclosed.
The men had reportedly admitted to being spies before the punishment was meted out. An al-Shabaab court in Somalia had found them guilty under Sharia law.
Al-Shabaab is known for imposing harsh punishments, including flogging and amputations, in areas under its control.
