A Kenyan blogger, known for tracking security developments, was arrested on May 22, 2015, after exposing an alleged ivory syndicate involving police officers.
Prior to the arrest, the blogger had posted a series of tweets detailing the transportation of approximately 15 kilograms of ivory from Tanzania into Kenya, facilitated by a police vehicle.
The tweets implicated specific individuals, including a District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) and a corporal, in the alleged smuggling operation.
Following the exposure, the blogger was summoned to the Ruiru Prison College, where he was arrested on allegations of conning someone out of money during a Kenya Prisons recruitment event on May 6, 2015.
The blogger denied the allegations and claimed he was being framed for his whistleblowing activities.
While in detention, the blogger alleged that he was assaulted and instructed not to communicate with anyone.
Despite the challenges, the blogger remained resolute, stating, 'But am still STRONG.'
Kenyans on Twitter rallied around the blogger, using the hashtag #FreeModernCorps to demand his release and express support for his anti-corruption efforts.
The incident highlights concerns over the treatment of whistleblowers and the risks associated with exposing corruption and illegal activities in Kenya.
