A Mombasa court has released Mkubwa Sadi Ramadhan, a man suspected of terrorism, on a Sh2 million bond and a surety of a similar amount. Ramadhan had been detained for 15 days at Shimo la Tewa prison.
Ramadhan is charged with 12 counts of being in possession of radical articles meant to instigate violence. Senior Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni stated that the accused had a right to bond but directed that he forfeit his travel documents until the case is heard.
According to the court, the prosecution failed to demonstrate how Ramadhan posed a threat to national security and how he was likely to abscond. The magistrate also ruled that the matter should be heard in private, rather than moving the case to Shanzu law courts as requested by the prosecution.
The case is scheduled for hearing on June 5 and 7.
