Kim Kardashian West has shared that she pursued Kanye West after her divorce from basketball player Kris Humphries, citing a long-standing spark between them.
The reality TV star, who split from Humphries in October 2011 after just 72 days of marriage, expressed surprise that West didn't reach out immediately after her divorce. She recalled feeling a connection with West since their initial meeting, where they collaborated on a project.
Kardashian West stated, "When I first met [Kanye], we worked on a project together and there was definitely a spark, but we were in other relationships and we kept our distance." She noted that despite their intermittent communication, their timing never seemed to align until she was newly single in 2012.
According to Kardashian West, it was six months after her divorce that she decided to take initiative, saying, "I was like, why not? Like, what am I waiting for?" She contacted West, who then invited her to one of his fashion shows in Paris, marking the beginning of their romantic relationship.
Kardashian West reflected on the moment, saying, "I thought he was going to call me as soon as he knew that I was single again. He didn’t, and so I called him and I said, ‘Hello? I thought you were at least going to call me and say ‘I told you so,’ something?’" She described how their friendship blossomed into something more after the fashion show, admitting, "then the magic happened."
Kardashian West also discussed her desire to have another child with West, with whom she has a 23-month-old daughter, North. In an interview with 'Access Hollywood,' she expressed her hopes for expanding their family, stating, "We’re just hoping that it’s sooner than later."
