On July 22, 2019, Kenya Police's Chafua Chafua boxing team made a triumphant return to the top of the national boxing league, reclaiming the title they lost to Kenya Defence Force (KDF) in 2017.
The team's victory came after a closely contested match at Uwanja Wa Mbuzi grounds in Mombasa, where they emerged victorious with 22 points, leaving KDF with 20 points in second place.
Kenya Police's win marked a significant comeback for the team, who had lost the title to KDF in 2017 after it was discovered that some officials had tampered with the results to favor the police.
Individual performances also played a crucial role in the team's victory, with Hezron Maganga of KDF delivering a standout performance in the light heavy bout, defeating Humphrey Ochieng Jakababa of Police with well-calculated jabs.
Other notable performances included Abednego Kyalo of KDF, who won 3-0 against Martin Maina of Police in the light fly bout, and Veronica Mbithe of KDF, who defeated Flavian Auma of Busia 2-1 in the ladies' bout.
