A recent poll conducted by Ahmednasir Abdullahi, a Jubilee lawyer, indicates that Peter Kenneth, the former Gatanga MP, may face challenges in his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
According to the poll results, Kenneth lost to Evans Kidero, the incumbent, by 4 percent of the votes. The poll, which was conducted on Twitter, had 4,261 participants and included four candidates: Evans Kidero of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Peter Kenneth of Jubilee, and two others categorized as Disgruntled Jubilee spoiler and Disgruntled NASA spoiler.
Kidero won the poll with 45 percent of the votes, while Kenneth secured 41 percent. The Jubilee spoiler and NASA spoiler received 8 and 6 percent of the votes, respectively.
Kenneth, who is reportedly backed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his inner circle, has the support of five MPs in his gubernatorial bid. However, his entry into the Nairobi politics has been met with opposition from four leaders, including MP Dennis Waweru, former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, and Senators Johnstone Sakaja and Mike Sonko.
The outcome of the poll may indicate a tough competition ahead for Kenneth, who recently joined the Jubilee party after leaving the Kenya National Congress (KNC).
