A police bodyguard assigned to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko was fatally shot on Saturday, March 6, 2016, according to reports.

Constable Bakari Tsuma Joto was attacked while walking home with his wife in Sunton, Kasarani, Nairobi, by a group of four men.

Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome stated that the officer suffered a gunshot wound to the forehead. The commander added that one of the attackers was armed with an AK-47 rifle and that the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital.

The incident occurred in the presence of the constable's wife, highlighting the brazen nature of the attack.
