Attorney General, Prof Githu Muigai, has supported the appointment of his wife, Margaret Waringa Muigai, as one of the 11 new High Court judges appointed by the President.

Mrs Muigai was among the 25 lawyers recommended to the President by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in January. She has served as a Chief Magistrate for over 15 years. Her appointment is set to take effect from July 1, 2014.

Other appointees include Bwonwong’a Justus Momanyi, Onguto Joseph Louis Omondi, Aburill Roselyne Ekirapa, Enock Chacha Mwita, Robert Kipkoech Limo, Mutungi Charles Kariuki, Mrima Anthony Charo, Janet Nzilani Mulwa, Nagillah Crispin Beda, and Farah Amin Shaikh Mohamed.

However, Law Society of Kenya Chairman, Eric Mutua, has expressed opposition to the appointments, stating that he will move to court to challenge the names because the President did not approve the full list of proposed judges sent by the JSC.
