Photos have emerged showing President Uhuru Kenyatta purchasing a bottle of soda from a kiosk in Machakos, according to his team.

The President was seen approaching the kiosk, where Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu was also present, buying a soda. Another photo shows the President handing money to the shop attendant.

This incident occurred during the President's visit to Machakos County for the launch of a connectivity project at Katulu Primary School in Tala.

Connectivity Project Launch

The project, announced in March, aims to bring transmission lines closer to households. It is being financed by the African Development Bank and the World Bank, with a budget of Sh27 billion, and seeks to double the number of households connected to the grid by 2018.

This gesture by the President has drawn comparisons to a previous occasion when he was hosted for lunch by Coast MPs at a modest Mombasa restaurant.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been referred to as the 'People's President' due to his tendency to engage with the public and disregard protocol. On several occasions, he has surprised his security team by interacting with members of the public during ceremonies.
