Campus parties, once a highlight of university life, have taken a darker turn. What were once lively gatherings with music, dancing, and socializing have become associated with fights, deaths, and exploitation.

According to students, the shift began with the increasing presence of alcohol, drugs, and other vices at these events. A final year student at a local university, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her experience with Nairobi News. She recalled a fresher's party in 2012 where she blacked out and woke up the next morning in a boy's hostel room, with signs that she had been exploited.

Other students have reported similar experiences, including being drugged and assaulted. Some male students have been known to lace female students' drinks with sleep-inducing drugs, making them vulnerable to exploitation. Fights among students are also common, resulting in injuries and even deaths.

The situation has become so dire that some students have begun to view campus parties as death traps. Despite this, many students continue to attend these events, often with devastating consequences.
