A 30-year-old man, Michael Obiero, was arrested in Siaya county on Monday night for allegedly masquerading as a barmaid named 'Brenda' and robbing clients.
According to the statement, Obiero's true identity was discovered after a patron became suspicious of his physique and alerted others.
Obiero had reportedly worked at the bar for two days before his arrest. He shared a hotel room with two barmaids at Usenge market.
Following the arrest, police inspected Obiero, who then acknowledged being transgender.
Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Samson Akatch stated that the incident was under investigation. The bar owner is expected to be summoned to explain why the establishment failed to properly vet its employees.
